The night and the morning were windy and it was colder again. And funny clouds were in the sky. We learned soon enough why.
This was the last long cycling day before the Cape. So there were no excuses. However, we didn’t know what was waiting.
A lonely area up here:
After the first 20km the wind was getting stronger and a bit later it was real storm. It was crazy cycling with the wind from west. Sometimes my bike was leaning in a weird angle to go straight. Soon we got some light rain in addition.
We passed the Nordkapp kommune boarder at a bit calmer region, so I could take a picture.
It was a lonely road until we had a break after 50km in the wind shade of a mountain. Then we went up a hill and turned straight into the storm. Probably we took more than half an hour for the next four kilometers.
Finally we reached the notorious Nordkapp tunnelen.
It goes steep down to -212m and then up again for four kilometers. At least no wind, but there are nicer things to do. It took more than 30 minutes to get through the loud darkness.
And then the storm was even worse on the other end.
We were fighting our way to Honningsvåg. On the way a car full of party swedes was passing us and applauded our afford. That was some motivation.
Then we reached the next 4km tunnel. This one was flat at least. In total we passed 4 tunnels today with a total length of about 15km.
Finally in Honningsvåg, we just bought some supplies and went a last time for this day through the storm to the next camp site. We made exactly 100km in total with 1250 hight meters.
I was really done in the end. One of the toughest days for sure. Today the Cape felt further away than yesterday.
We spent a long time in the kitchen of the camp with dinner and a beer before we build up the tents (cabins were fully booked). Not so easy in this storm. I hope it will last for the night.
