What a day! I started cycling at 8:30 after a breakfast of pizza leftovers. It was a nice morning. Not too cold and the traffic was pretty light on the road to Wiesbaden at this time of the day. Then I crossed the Rhine to get over to Mainz and i found the Eurovelo 15 again. Here in Rheinland-Pfalz the roads were great! They were leading through wine yards over narrow asphalt road without any traffic.
The worst today was getting through the cities around Mannheim because they are ugly and annoying to cycle. But that were minor problems, especially because it was getting warmer and the sun came out. I had a short lunch break after I passed Worms. At this point I had finished 100km already.
I followed the Eurovelo further to Speyer through little villages and fields. It was great cycling all the way. In Speyer I took a quick picture of the famous Dom:
Then I quickly went on because I needed to cover more distance before the sunset and crossed the Rhine again. I left the Eurovelo but it was a really nice surprise how great the cycle roads are in Baden-Württemberg as well.
When I came close to Karlsruhe, I went the last 10km over a perfectly straight forrest road. This city has a very funny shape!
I found a cheap hotel and bought a couple of kebabs for dinner. Then I went straight to bed when the sun was setting.
It was a great cycling day! Probably one of the best I ever had. Most of the 185km today went over really nice roads, the weather was perfect and almost everything worked just fine. The average speed was close to 25km/h and I felt pretty well. So far so good but tomorrow, I will reach the the mountains…
