I woke up at 11 and though about what to do. A great option for this day was to climb the Schauinsland, a mountain next to Freiburg. This one is pretty famous and I am not so often in the area with my bike. So I went for this option. It has a hight difference of almost 1000m on 13km (would be category 1 in a cycling race); so not exactly a rest day after all.
This was the route:
The weather was amazing again! Sunshine and no wind. Probably around 25 degrees. I bought some pastries at a bakery and started cycling to the mountain. The beginning was pretty steep but it was a lot of fun!
After some kilometers, I stopped for a picture:
There is a lift as well. They even allow you to bring a bike. But that was no option for a great day like this.
Almost there! It was really fun to cycle up and then this view was close to the top. It is Freiburg in the background:
I was pretty sweaty in the end so I took a break to dry a bit before the descent. This was the view there:
Then I went over very steep roads down towards Stauffen. Great fun as well!
When I was back in the valley and went on over a couple of hills, I started to feel a bit exhausted. So I cycled back to Freiburg and had a kebab and another pastry.
Later on, we had another nice dinner at my friends’ place. It was a short but an excellent stay in my old study town. Tomorrow I will leave to France.
